NEWSMarch 10, 2000 RSU Announces Wage Increase for Federal Work Study StudentsStudents who qualify for Federal Work Study assistance at Rogers
State University will receive a wage increase of 85 cents per hour. Beginning immediately, RSU work-study students will receive $6 per
hour, an increase over their previous wage of $5.15 per hour, the federal
minimum wage. The wage increase will be retroactive to Feb. 1, according to
Barrett Bell, RSU Director of Enrollment Management. “We have decided to reward the efforts of our student workers,”
Bell said. “We want to let them know that their efforts are appreciated
and that they are valued as staff members as well as students.” Several jobs are presently available on the RSU campus, Bell said. A
variety of offices and departments at RSU are seeking new work-study
students for employment. RSU departments looking for work-study employees
include: the School of Business and Technology, the Department of
Mathematics and Sciences, the Department of Health Sciences, the Office of
Enrollment Management, the Business Office, Student Support Services,
Physical Plant, Food Services, RSU-TV, RSU-Radio, and the Career Services
Office. “Working on campus is a lot more convenient than finding an
off-campus job,” said Stacy Hughes, an RSU freshman majoring in elementary
education from Inola. “I can just leave class and walk a few steps to
work. Plus you can learn a lot about the operation of a university.” Hughes
serves as a work study at RSU’s Office of Public Information, where she
helps maintain the university’s news clipping archive, assists with the
design of flyers and posters, and distributes news releases to area
newspapers. Students interested in receiving work-study assistance should visit
RSU’s Office of Enrollment Management in Preparatory Hall on the Claremore
campus, or the university’s branch campuses in Bartlesville and Pryor. For
more information, call 343-7529.
