Department of English & Humanities

Global demands on the present and future workforce produce the need for people who can think critically and creatively, and who have developed the skills that will enable them to work in a variety of situations with a diversity of people.

The Department English and Humanities is built upon the desire to develop critical thinking and cultural awareness through interdisciplinary studies.

Our faculty represents diverse backgrounds, interests and experiences that provide students the opportunity to examine a wide variety of intellectual pursuits. Along with classroom experiences, our department provides students with the opportunity for a wide range of extracurricular college and community activities.

Our facilities include an art gallery, multimedia classrooms, a writing/computer lab, alternative learning spaces, and traditional classrooms.

At the conclusion of the academic year, the faculty holds a writing contest for various class essays and for creative efforts in short story and poetry. Students can also submit their work to Cooweescoowee, RSU’s nationally recognized literary magazine.
